Introducing Sticker Stop’s new blog! Get excited people.
Now that the state has changed up the car inspection system that we have all become so very comfortable with; I have decided to start a blog to help all of our wonderful customers navigate the new “two steps, one sticker” program.
Let me start out by saying, I do not like change. I like routine. I like having a plan. So when the state announced that they were doing away with inspection stickers, I’m not going to lie, I kind of freaked out. I have been doing state inspections in Austin for over ten years now. I have a system. I like my system. This #onesticker business was going to mess up my system. However, there wasn’t a lot I could do about it. So after I finished being frustrated and stomping around the shop, I decided to embrace the state’s new program.
Now that we are one week into the new program I wish I could tell you it is causing no confusion and everyone totally understand what they are supposed to do, but sadly, that is not how it is going. Everything everyone thought they knew about inspections has changed. Frustrating, I know! However, I am here to help!
Here are six helpful tips to help you get through the change
1.) DON’T PANIC! It will all be ok.
2.) You are still required to get your car inspected every year and all the rules for the safety and emissions inspection remains the same.
3.) There is this handy website that the state has created to help you navigate the new one sticker inspection. www.twostepsonesticker.com (make sure to watch the video for a chuckle)
4.) If your inspection is expired and your registration is current you need to get your car inspected 90 days prior to the expiration date of your registration sticker.
5.) The inspection fees have lowered! Instead of $28.75 for a safety/emissions inspection you will now only pay $18.50. Exciting right!? Well don’t get too excited they are now collecting the difference at the registration office. (Hey, at least when you visit Sticker Stop it will feel like its costing you less. Right?) For more information on the fees check go here
6.) If you need a copy of your inspection report visit www.mytxcar.org
I hope this helps you navigate the new one sticker inspection laws a little better. If you have any questions please feel free to call us anytime and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have!
Hope to see you soon at Sticker Stop soon for your stickerless inspection!
Be safe out there!
